The story behind Badgerfest 2018

Velindre Nepal Trek
Whilst scrolling through Facebook one day, Carla noticed that the amazing Johnny Cage and the Voodoo Groove were playing at The Globe in Cardiff on the 8th June 2018.  "That looks interesting," thought Carla, so she clicked on the link and it took her to the event page.  "Oh wow, they are doing it for charity, that’s pretty cool.  What’s the charity?" thought Carla.  And there it began.

The event was in support of the Velindre Cancer Charity, in particular the Velindre Nepal Trek fundraiser.  "Ooooh, Nepal?  What’s that all about?

It turns out that the Velindre Cancer Centre have organised a trek through the Nepal from the 9-17th February 2019 to raise money;

Nepal Trek

"We're delighted to announce that our wonderful Patron, Rhod Gilbert will be leading his fourth overseas trek for Velindre Fundraising in 2019 by taking us to Nepal!

Speaking about the trek, Rhod said "following hugely successful treks up Mount Kilimanjaro through Patagonia and to Machu Picchu in Peru, I am now preparing for my next challenge: a 5 day hike through the Helambu region of Nepal."

He added, "one year today, I'll once again be leading a trek in aid of Velindre Cancer Centre - and you can join me. Collectively, we have managed to raise over a million pounds so far and we've had an absolute ball along the way. A hard ball, but a ball is a ball, that's what I always say. If I can do it, anyone can!"

The stunning ancient kingdom of Nepal is home to some of the world’s highest mountain; it's largely without roads, and access is limited to ancient trails linking isolated villages where life and customs have changed little over centuries. Only on foot can you discover the true nature of the country."

All Chris and Carla need to do is raise a minimum sponsorship of £8,000, hike for five days (ten hours a day) through the mountains, camping in freezing conditions whilst trying to avoid altitude sickness.  Oh and six months of vigorous training walks.  "Easy!" they thought.

Badgerfest is entirely not for profit.  A huge team of badger helpers have helped us create Badgerfest, all for little more than a thank you and a warm feeling in their tummy.  All of the money raised through ticket sales for Badgerfest 2018 will go to the Velindre Cancer Centre.  Not 10% or 20%, all of it.  No seriously, all of it.

Tickets are available to buy now [here] or if you can’t make it we would still really appreciate a donation of whatever you can afford to help this amazing charity.

Peace, love and Badgers 😀

Badgerfest is proud to be supporting Velindre Cancer Centre.
